An Ornate Chair Restoration

Some chairs quietly blend into a room. This one has a little more to say.

With its sweeping timber curves, crossed base and carved floral backrest, this Savonarola-style chair‍ ‍

( the Savonarola chair is a historic Italian Renaissance-style armchair characterized by a distinctive, curule-inspired X-shaped or "scissors" frame dating back to late 15th Century , Florence , Italy.) was a distinctive piece to come through our workshop.

All that beautiful detail

There’s plenty to appreciate in this chair’s design. The curved slats create its striking silhouette, while the broad armrests and decorative back rail give it a presence all its own. Even the small brass hardware add to the overall effect.

Looking resplendent after its professional restoration.

It’s the kind of furniture that invites you to stop and look a little closer.

Restored in our Brisbane workshop, the chair’s warm timber tones and grain now take centre stage. Light catches the curved frame and carved details beautifully, showing how much interest there is in every angle.

For us, that’s one of the pleasures of furniture restoration: seeing an existing piece become something its owners can enjoy and appreciate all over again.

A beautiful finished piece - quality is everything,

Whether it’s an unusual occasional chair, a much loved dining table or a family heirloom, good furniture deserves another chapter.
