Our Approach
Every restoration at Bywater Design begins with a careful and respectful assessment of the piece, its history, its construction, and its character. We combine traditional joinery techniques with considered modern finishing methods to ensure each item retains its integrity and originality while gaining renewed strength and longevity.
We use sustainably sourced Australian timbers wherever replacements are needed, and hand-finish every surface to ensure a seamless and authentic result. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is treated as ordinary.
What We Restore
Our Brisbane workshop is fully equipped to handle all aspects of timber furniture restoration, from delicate antique conservation through to full structural work. Our restoration services include structural repairs and the re-securing of loose or failing joints, veneer, inlay, and marquetry repairs, scratch, dent, and water damage restoration, rebuilding of missing or damaged timber sections, antique furniture conservation, stripping, sanding, staining, and re-polishing of all timber finishes, and hardware cleaning, replacement, and re-fitting.
Heritage Restoration
In 2012 and 2013, Bywater Design was appointed the official restorer of heritage furniture for Brisbane City Hall, one of Queensland's most significant and beloved landmarks. It is work we carry with enormous pride, and it reflects the level of trust and precision our restoration clients can expect from every project, large or small.
