Since 1986, we have earned a reputation as one of Queensland's most trusted names in bespoke furniture making and heritage restoration.

Every piece that leaves our Boondall workshop, whether newly commissioned or lovingly restored, carries the same standard of design and craftsmanship that has defined us from the beginning.

Who We Are

Bywater Design was founded by Stuart Bywater, a furniture maker trained to the highest level of his craft.

Stuart holds a Degree in Furniture Making from the Canberra School of Art, now part of the Australian National University, one of Australia's most respected institutions for the applied arts.

That foundation of formal training, combined with nearly four decades of hands-on practice, means every piece Stuart and our team create reflects both deep technical mastery and a genuine design sensibility. Stuart, Daniele, and our professional team work closely with every client to ensure the piece you receive is exactly as you envisioned, beautifully made, built to last, and personal to you.

What We Do

We offer two deeply complementary services.

We create bespoke furniture for Brisbane homes and businesses, including dining suites, living room pieces, entertainment units, media units, sideboards, and bookcases, designed and handcrafted specifically for you, your space, and your life.

We also restore and conserve antique and heirloom furniture, giving cherished pieces a second life with the same care and precision we bring to every original commission.

A Credential Worth Noting

In 2012 and 2013, Bywater Design was appointed the official restorer of heritage furniture for Brisbane City Hall, one of Queensland's most significant and beloved landmarks. It is a distinction we carry with enormous pride, and a reflection of the trust this city has placed in our hands.
