Hand carving - craftsmanship is in the detail.

Some projects call for a little patience and a very steady hand.

This school shield for Stuartholme Sacre Coeur Association is one of those pieces.

With its decorative scroll work , carved lettering and intricate central crest, there is plenty to appreciate before we even get to the polished finish.

Traditional woodworking at its finest

Hand carving takes time. Each curve needs to flow into the next, the leaves need definition, and the scrolls need depth without looking heavy. Its careful work with small cuts gradually bringing the design to life.

The central crest is particularly detailed with hearts, flowers, foliage and the ‘Cor Unum” banner.

A textured background helps the raised carving stand out, while the smooth timber surrounding it gives the eye somewhere to rest.

An exemplary display of craftsmanship.

Once all the finer points were carved, careful sanding was undertaken to ensure those details retain refined .

Then the staining and polishing which really adds another dimension.

The rich colour and shine highlight the grain culminating in a truly wonderful handcrafted heirloom that is a long lasting reminder of what traditional woodworking craftsmanship can achieve .

Love what we do !
